Consumer segments prevent the supply of house

While a huge market exists for affordable middle income housing in the GCC including Abu Dhabi, the high price of ‘investment area' land and ‘unmanageable expectations' on the part of some consumer segments is preventing the supply of affordable housing from meeting demand.

Panellists at a Cityscape Abu Dhabi session on affordable housing also agreed yesterday that the supply of middle-income housing has been held back by the limited availability of investment area land in the region and high profit margins developers expect.
