Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed tops Power 500

Saudi Arabia’s Prince Alwaleed has topped the list of the 500 most powerful Arabs on the planet, Arabian Business can reveal.

The Kingdom Holding chairman took the top spot for the seventh successive year, beating off competition from Mohammed Bin Hammam, the head of the Asian Football Confederation, and chairman of Emirates Airline Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

British tourists ranks Dubai as least safe holiday spot

British holidaymakers have ranked Dubai alongside Mexico, South Africa and Jamaica as the countries they feel the least safe in, a poll by a UK-based online travel agency has found.

The emirate, which welcomes an estimated one million British visitors each year, came fifth in a survey which asked travellers which destinations they felt most at risk in.

Beachgoers warned of stingray attacks

Beachgoers have been warned to be aware of poisonous and dangerous fish, especially the stingrays along the UAE beaches following the drowning of a college student in Ras Al Khaimah.

A senior official of Dubai Municipality’s Marine Environment and Wildlife Sanctuary Section told Emirates 24|7 that stingrays can be found in the UAE waters during the beginning of summer and are most often buried under the sand close to the shoreline.

UAE officials to get tough on restaurant price rises

Consumer protection chiefs in the UAE have vowed to clamp down on the prices that restaurants are charging for food and drink.

The Consumer Protection Department of the Ministry of Economy is to monitor prices closely following complaints that restaurant bills have risen by up to 20 percent in some cases.
